Part of EnviroScape's charm is that participants are able to use all of their senses and relate to their own community while better understanding global issues and learning how to prevent water pollution.
The three-dimensional landscapes illustrate residential, recreational, agricultural, industrial and transportation areas - all representing possible sources of water pollution. Children and adults learn by using chemicals (drink mix) and loose soil (cocoa) throughout a typical community and seeing how their actions and others may affect our water. EnviroScape actually emphasizes pollution prevention: a second demonstration shows how to prevent such pollution.
EnviroScape is an interactive, hands-on educational and communication tool that is effective with all ages. In addition to being successfully used with students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, EnviroScape is also used by universities, soil and water conservation districts, city governments, utility companies and civic and environmental groups around the country. As more than one teacher has told us, EnviroScape is "the best educational tool we have."
Some schools have even integrated EnviroScape into existing curricula, while others are creating new curricula based on EnviroScape.
EnviroScape's attractiveness, portability and versatility have attracted worldwide attention. Today, EnviroScape is being used in all 50 states, Canada, Poland, France, Australia, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, the UK, and Hong Kong, and inquiries are continually being received from all over the world.
What is the EnviroScape Program? The EnviroScape Program is a unique collection of hands-on, interactive models, instructional videos, curriculum and services designed to be the basics of a water education program or added to an existing program.

Anyone interested in teaching others about water pollution prevention. EnviroScape models can be used both in formal education settings and by corporate and business planners, public planning and environmental agencies, safety and emergency outreach efforts, and environmental education and outreach programs.
Are EnviroScape models easy to maintain?
Yes. EnviroScape should be washed with dish soap and water after use. Buildings, bridges, trees, cows, vehicles, and other components are removable for easy cleaning. The durability of the EnviroScape models ensures that with proper care, the model will last for many years.
What if I'm not satisfied?
In the unlikely event that EnviroScape or one of its other scenarios does not meet your needs, or if you're not 100% satisfied, a full refund less shipping costs will be provided. Just return it in excellent condition within 10 days, postage paid.
Do I need EnviroScape II or another Deluxe Unit to use the add-on scenarios?
Yes. Add-on scenarios use components and accessories (such as the clear base, some buildings, trees, etc.) that are provided in any of the stand-alone deluxe units.
The Groundwater component and the Riparian kit are the exceptions - they can be used with any EnviroScape model. (Initial tests indicate, however, that many users prefer to use this kit with EnviroScape's Wetlands scenario.)
What will fit in the Deluxe Carrying Case?
The Deluxe Carrying Case will expand to hold up to two landscape maps (add-ons) and the Groundwater component along with the EnviroScape II deluxe unit. However, we do not advise shipping it this way.

EnviroScape II DELUXE Unit With Carrying Case
EnviroScape II (the newest version of the original EnviroScape model) discusses nonpoint source pollution and the steps everyone can take to help prevent it. It is also good for discussion about overall watershed concepts. Areas on the landscape map include: construction site, residential, recreation (golf course), mountains (forested), industry (factory and water treatment plant), agriculture and transportation. EnviroScape II teaches the watershed concept in addition to point and nonpoint source pollution. Two waterways flow into a larger water body which is representative of a lake, river, bay, or ocean. The model is packed in a durable carrying case with wheels, ideal for transporting locally or shipping. The easy-to-use model (approximately 25" x 30" x 5"), comes complete with a kit containing everything you need to demonstrate the movement of water through a watershed and the pollution that runoff may cause: cocoa, and powdered drink mixes, felt vegetation swatches, clay berms, and props such as miniature vehicles, trees and cows.
The EnviroScape II Deluxe unit contains everything you need (but the water!) plus extras. This unit which can be shipped or carried, comes complete with a heavy duty carrying case with wheels, houses, barn, factory, drain pipe, treatment plant, trees, golf flags, cows, cars and best management practices such as buffer strips, clay berms, manure container, and fencing. Even includes soil and chemicals (cocoa and drink mixes). Also includes the bridges, watercatcher, rainmaker, water plug, User's Guide and Handle with Care published by the Terrene Institute. Perfect for the user who is new to EnviroScape and plans to share it with others or move it from place to place.
EnviroScape Deluxe Unit Without the Carrying Case
Includes everything listed above except the heavy-duty carrying case. Ideal starter kit for new EnviroScape users and for those who do not plan on moving the model frequently.
EnviroScape Groundwater Component
EnviroScape's Groundwater Component provides basic demonstrations on how groundwater works, how we use groundwater, how we pollute groundwater and how we can prevent and clean up groundwater contamination. It covers the basics and is not intended for use as a highly technical demonstration.
The new and improved Groundwater Component features a durable plastic liner with a silk-screened depiction of unsaturated/saturated soils, aquifer and bedrock layers that replaces the need for marbles and foam pieces used with the original Groundwater component. The water channel (where the layers are silk-screened) is also smaller to reduce the amount of water needed for demonstration. This component is easier to use and clean than the original Groundwater component, and it can be used with all EnviroScape scenarios.
In addition to the upgraded, durable liner that inserts into the EnviroScape base, the component comes with private wells and pumps (clear tubing and spray pumps), an abandoned well (clear tubing), and Supplementary User's Guide.
EnviroScape Hazardous Materials
Hazardous Materials Deluxe Unit with Carrying Case
EnviroScape's Hazardous Material and Waste model is designed to help us explain hazardous substances, wastes and their effects on the environment. The model and guide provide activities that address potential sources and problems of hazardous waste contamination; how we can clean up hazardous waste sites; and how we can prevent hazardous materials and wastes from adversely affecting the environment. Issues addressed on the model include: underground storage tanks, contaminated lagoon, abandoned warehouse, old, unlined dump and transportation. Also includes residential and commercial areas and buildings.
The Hazardous Waste Deluxe Unit contains everything you need (but the water!). This unit, which can be shipped or carried, comes complete with a heavy duty carrying case, hazardous waste landscape map, clear base, buildings, assorted buffer strips, barrels, baseball diamond, train and semitrailer truck, wells, storage tanks, trash, cap and monitoring pipe, eyedropper, bridges, flashlight, water plug, houses, factory, treatment plant, watercatcher, trees, cocoa, drink mixes, and Supplementary User's Guide.
Although not required, we strongly recommend using EnviroScape's Groundwater component with the Hazardous Waste model.
Hazardous Materials Deluxe Unit Without Carrying Case
Includes everything listed above except the heavy duty carrying case. Ideal for those who do not plan on moving the model frequently.
Hazardous Materials Add-On
EnviroScape's Hazardous Waste model is also available as an affordable add-on to the EnviroScape II Deluxe Unit. The Hazardous Waste Add-on includes the hazardous waste landscape map, buildings, assorted buffer strips, barrels, baseball diamond, train and semitrailer truck, wells, storage tanks, trash, cap and monitoring pipe, eyedropper, bridges, flashlight, water plug, and Supplementary User's Guide. The Hazardous Waste Add-on uses items already provided with EnviroScape II including the clear base, houses, factory, treatment plant, watercatcher, trees, cocoa, and drink mixes.
Landfill Deluxe Unit with Carrying Case
EnviroScape's Landfill model shows how modern landfill systems differ from the "dumps" of the past. The model consists of an older style landfill of the past and a modern landfill cell of today that includes recycling as an important element. We all make trash -- landfills will always be needed to accept trash that cannot be recycled or converted. EnviroScape Landfill is a wonderful tool for helping people of all ages understand how a landfill works and how they differ from landfills of the past.
The Landfill Deluxe Unit contains everything you need (but the water!). This unit, which can be shipped or carried, comes complete with a heavy-duty carrying case, landfill landscape map, clear base, buildings, and accessories. The modern landfill cell consists of five trays that gradually decrease in size to allow for a cutaway view of a landfill cell. The trays represent the aquifer (base or groundwater unit), layers of trash, and collection systems of modern landfills. Rain is simulated on an active landfill cell on the model, so the viewer can follow the flow of the rain through the solid waste. The leachate is collected and then recirculated from the tanks back through the trash or transported from the tanks to a wastewater treatment plant (the treatment plant is not actually shown on the model.) Solid waste is represented with sponges and the leachate collection pumps and wells are represented with clear tubing and spray pumps. A landfill cover is also provided to show how rain flows off the impermeable cover or "cap" to stormwater retention areas.
Although not required, we strongly recommend using EnviroScape's Groundwater component with the Landfill model.
Landfill Deluxe Unit Without Carrying Case
Includes everything listed above except the heavy duty carrying case. Ideal for those who do not plan on moving the model frequently.
Landfill Waste Add-On
EnviroScape's Landfill model is also available as an affordable add-on to the EnviroScape II Deluxe Unit. The Landfill Add-on includes the landfill landscape map, buildings, accessories, water plug, and Supplementary User's Guide. The Landfill Add-on uses items already provided with EnviroScape II including the clear base, buildings, watercatcher, trees, cocoa, and drink mixes.
EnviroScape Riparian Kit
EnviroScape's Riparian Kit addresses the benefits and values of riparian buffers - areas including trees and other vegetation adjacent to the banks of streams, rivers and lakes. The kit's supplementary guide explores the positive effects of good riparian buffers as well as activities that contribute to poor riparian buffer zones. Positive effects include cooler water temperatures and shading for in-stream organisms (canopy cover); reduced volume and rate of flooding (water infiltration); food sources for in-stream organisms (protective habitat); streambank stabilization (erosion control); sediment trapping and nutrient removal (plant root systems); and recreational corridors.
The Riparian Kit contains components for a complete demonstration of how riparian buffers affect water quality, quantity and flow. Each kit contains 40 trees (20 round and 20 tall), shrubs, clay, assorted roots, flashlight and Supplementary User's Guide. Can be used with all EnviroScape scenarios.
Wetlands Deluxe Unit with Carrying Case
EnviroScape Wetlands teaches the functions and values of wetlands in addition to how human factors affect wetlands. This model can also demonstrate point and nonpoint source pollution. Areas included on the model: construction, residential, forest, agriculture, transportation and industrial. Sponges represent wetlands and show the water absorption and water holding capacity of wetlands.
The EnviroScape Wetlands Deluxe unit contains everything you need (but the water!). This unit, which can be shipped or carried, comes complete with a heavy duty carrying case, wetlands landscape map, clear base, shopping center and parking lot, marina and boat slips, bridges, rainmakers (spray bottles), assorted wetlands (sponges and felt strips), plant roots (cotton swabs), measuring cup, eco-spout, water plug, clay, houses, factory, barn, small squirt bottle, watercatcher, trees, cocoa, drink mixes, and Supplementary User's Guide.
Wetlands Deluxe Unit Without the Carrying Case
Includes everything listed above except for the heavy duty carrying case. Ideal starter kit for new wetlands users and for those who do not plan on moving the model frequently.
EnviroScape's Wetlands model is also available as an affordable add-on to the EnviroScape Deluxe Unit. The Wetlands Add-on includes the wetlands landscape map, shopping center and parking lot, marina and boat slips, bridges, rainmakers (spray bottles), assorted wetlands (sponges and felt strips), plant roots (cotton swabs), measuring cup, eco-spout, water plug, clay, and Supplementary User's Guide.
