The Groundwater Database System (GWDB) consists of a database manager and the two main reports, "Summary by Well" and "Summary by Parameter." GWDB was designed specifically for the groundwater field. Therefore, it has many built-in features that save time over using "off the shelf" database and spreadsheet programs.

Summary by Well Report

The Summary by Well Report, consisting of a table and graph page, shows the sampling history for each well. Below is the table page showing the results of 11 parameters across the top and 12 dates going downward for one well.

The graph page of the Summary by Well report is shown below. A diamond marker is placed on the right side of each graph indicating the maximum contamination level. Notice how easily the anomaly for Chloride, second row to the far right, is spotted.

Summary by Parameter Report

The Summary by Parameter Report, showing just one parameter per page, enables you to compare the values of a parameter between a set of wells. In the example below, the first well is the background well and all the others are compared to it.

Advanced Reports

The advanced reports include "Summary by Date," "Stiff Graph," and "GW Elevation Graph." These reports help summarize large amounts of data and provide further insight.

Summary by Date Report

The Summary by Date Report shows the plume of contamination on a well field during one sampling episode. The report for each episode consists of a table page and up to 10 map pages. The table page shows the values for 9 parameters in up to 39 wells. The map page shows the wells in their physical locations on the site. Each well head is shaded according to the level of contamination of the parameters chosen. Note: this diagram is similar to a contour map. There are plans to add contouring capabilities to this report as well as importing a site drawing from a CAD program for overlay. For now, consider that this map is more accurate than a contour map (sometimes contour maps are wrong). At least you know that the data is pinpointed to the correct location when using this type of map.

Stiff Graph Report

Like the Summary by Date Report, the Stiff Graph Report shows the values for parameters and wells during just one sampling episode. The parameters and their scales are shown at the top of the page. Each point on the polygons, below, is placed according to the value for each parameter, relative to its scale, above. Thus, the higher the value, the larger the polygon. This report gives a quick summary for a set of wells during the episode shown.

Groundwater Elevation Report

The GW Elevation report, below, shows seasonal trends in groundwater elevations. It plots up to four wells together on one page. Groundwater elevations can also be shown on any of the other reports.
