Here we present an example of a 2-D calculation of transient moisture content in heterogeneous soil. The 800 by 650 cm test area comprises three layers of soil which vary in material and hydrological properties. A small zone of high conductivity soil is contained within the lowermost soil near the left boundary. Uniform infiltration of water at 2 cm/day occurs at the top left boundary.

The effect of the embedded high-conductivity zone of soil is clearly seen in the manner in which the moisture contours deflect towards this zone.
